Artist Bio: Bada Jean is a Nêhiyaw (Cree), Dene and Welsh visual artist from Treaty 6 and 7 territory. Her roots come from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation and Tsuut ina Nation. She grew up in Alberta and Saskatchewan and now lives and works on Sumas and Matsqui First Nation Territory. (Chilliwack, BC). Bada Jean is a painter working with acrylic, spray paint and traditional materials, as well as a digital illustrator. She hopes to share her culture with art, by using traditional imagery and language within her works in her own style. She uses her art as documentation as she reconnects and comes back to her culture. As she leers her language, she uses Cree syllabics and language within her work as an act of reconciliation. She hopes to inspire others to come back to their culture for it is not lost, and hopes other Indigenous people across the world reconnect, because it has always been with us.
